Collecting sap keeps Ojibwe family connected to its roots

Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa member Joe Northrup, with his three brothers, took on the brunt of the family’s sugarbush tradition this year in Sawyer. With the family patriarch, Jim Northrup, deciding at age 65 it was time to instruct from a chair, the sons and other young relatives made most of the planning decisions and are carrying out the season’s work.
