Bringing back the bird count

In 1900, Frank M. Chapman, curator at the American Museum of Natural History, proposed an idea. Instead of the traditional Christmas bird hunt before the holiday meal, why not tally them? Count birds for sport (and ultimately science) rather than stringing them over one’s shoulder.
