Park Rapids Tae Kwon Do students receive awards at family tournament

Park Rapids Tae Kwon Do students recently competed at the 20th Lee's Tae Kwon Do Family Tournament in Marshall. Competing against 500, Park Rapids TKD brought home many awards in forms and sparring. The TKD competitors and awards include front, from left, Emma Jackson, 1st in forms, 1st in sparring, and Abigail Kirlin, 3rd in forms and 1st in sparring; middle, Grace Jackson, 4th forms, 3rd sparring; Joshua Hunter, 1st forms, 3rd sparring; Hunter Horgeshimer, 4th forms, 2nd sparring; Cascade Oppitz, 1st forms, and Alexandra Kirlin, 3rd forms, 4th sparring; Micah Sycks, Katie Sycks and Sid Sycks came to watch parents; back, Master Nick Bretz, coach; Chris Oppitz, 2nd forms, 1st sparring; Micah Yliniemi, 1st forms, 1st sparring (Micah took 1st in her first-ever adult black belt female sparring division, but lost the female grand champion belt by a single point in sudden victory overtime); Jordan Richards, 1st forms, 1st sparring (Jordan Richards brought home the grand champion belt with 20 adult male black belt sparring competitors. He plans to defend his title next year); Elaine Sycks, 3rd forms, and Master Brian Nelson, coach. Not pictured: Tim Sycks, 2nd forms, and Ben Schmaus, 1st in sparring.
