Laporte Days increases small town ‘census’ fivefold

Last weekend’s Laporte Days brought hundreds to this northeastern Hubbard County town. Co-organizer Winnie DauSchmidt said attendance was a bit spotty because of intermittent rains, but good overall. The bake sale raised more than $200 for the county’s K-9 program. A pig roast brought hundreds to the Lakeport Fire & Rescue hall. But the highlight of any small town festival is the parade. The town shines up its fire trucks, politicians visit and kids get dressed up in costumes and bring their Halloween baskets to catch the candy thrown from the floats
