Ride for the Troops involves nearly 400 biker-fundraisers

Published 06/09/2010, Park Rapids Enterprise

Motorcyslists from all over Minnesota and the region, many veterans themselves, held a rumbling ride and fundraiser through north central Minnesota Sunday. Last Christmas the Freedom Riders donated 25 Visa cards worth $200 each that were packed into boxes for deployed soldiers. The bikers were met at the north entrance of Itasca State Park by the Blue Star Mothers Northwoods Chapter 9 and an Honor Guard from the Park Rapids American Legion. At left, Blake Amundson, 3, waved his flag in salute of the parade festivities and for his cousin, who is stationed in Iraq. The Blue Star Mothers pack gift boxes with donated goods for all the troops that wish to receive them. The gift cards can be used overseas.
