Trumpeters return en masse

Portage Lake residents were greeted by the honking of 50 trumpeter swans Thursday afternoon that congregated along the east shore of the lake, joined by some mallard groupies. Some of the swans will migrate to southern Minnesota; many stay in the region through the winter. (Sarah Smith / Enterprise)
