Camp helps children deal with mourning

Camp Release, a weekend grief camp for children ages 9 to 16 who have experienced the death of a loved one, made a positive difference in the life of Mikaela Long, Berlin, N.D., who attended in 2007. Mikaela, now 13, lost her brother Tristan — her only sibling — in a four-wheeler accident on Jan. 15, 2005. Tristan was 8 years old when he died, and the brother and sister were close not only in age but in friendship. Living on a farm, they spent many hours together, playing and talking. “We laughed a lot, played jokes on each other, played games,” Mikaela said.
