Counselors face challenges

Counselors have had a presence in schools for a long time, but their roles — and their students’ needs — have changed. “Our district and our state has been very supportive of counseling,” said Donette Rasmussen, a counselor at Jamestown Middle School and the counseling department chair for Jamestown Public Schools. “Over the years, they’ve allowed us to add (counselors) and the state has mandated more.”
