5 ND airports receive federal grants for infrastructure, safety

GRAND FORKS - Five airports across the state will receive more than $17 million in federal grants, U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., announced Thursday.

The Grand Forks International Airport will receive more than $4.1 million to redesign and reconstruct part of its taxiway. The Devils Lake Regional Airport will receive more than $1.2 million primarily to purchase a new firetruck.

Also getting grants are Minot International Airport, the Bowman County Airport Authority and Jamestown Regional Airport, Heitkamp announced in a news release. Minot alone will get almost $9 million for constructing a new taxiway.

The federal dollars will be matched by state and local dollars, airport officials said, but the feds are paying for 90 percent of the projects.
