‘Lawn and Garden Radio’ debuts WednesdayFARGO – Just as spring flowers are poking through the ground, radio in Fargo-Moorhead is getting a little greener.
Don Kinzler, a lifelong gardener and Forum columnist, will be on air with WDAY AM 970’s Mike Kapel at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays for a 30-minute segment called “Lawn and Garden Radio.”
The show opens with a topic discussion, and then Kinzler will take calls from listeners, says Kapel, WDAY’s program director.
“In the past, the station has had things like this but I think it’s been quite a while. They’re generally very successful, very well-liked segments with a lot of participation because people have so many different questions – anything from tree that looks like there’s a problem to ‘I’m not quite sure how to get grass to grow in a certain area,’ to people working on gardens,” he says.
Kapel called Kinzler and pitched the idea of the radio segment after hearing him on air recently with radio personality Erick Johnson.
“Immediately when you talk to him, you get a sense of what kind of guy he is – very outgoing, very upbeat,” Kapel says. “Between his knowledge and the fact that he comes across as so likeable and knowledgeable, and just a great attitude, it’s the perfect fit for doing something on the radio. He has all the skills that you need.”
