AppSnap: 2048 a difficult, yet addicting puzzle game

If you don’t have time to spare, stay away from 2048.

The free app is a simple puzzle game that uses sliding numbered tiles to slowly waste away your life. The game is not only incredibly time consuming, but it’s also addicting. Once you finally reach the end (assuming there is one) or fail the puzzle, there’s no doubt you’ll be tempted to click “Play Again.”

The little tiled puzzle game instantly reminded me of the Rubik’s cube, which I’ve yet to conquer. But in 2048, the tiles are categorized by numbers rather than colors. To play, users slide alike tiles together to combine them. Two “4” tiles become an “8” tile; two 8s become a 16; and so on and so forth. The goal is to reach the 2048 tile.

The game starts out simple with just two tiles on the four-by-four grid. If there are no matches, players can slide the tiles across the board to realign them. But with every wrong move a new tile fills an empty space, lessening other possible moves.

Overall, the game is a waste of time yet impossible to stop playing. So, you decide: Is fulfilling your curiosity worth the torture?
