Flames scorch storage units in north Fargo

FARGO – A fire that burned eight storage units early Monday on the city’s north side is being investigated as suspicious.

Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said a witness saw people at one of the units at Mid States Storage, 2101 12th St. N., just before the fire started.

Vettel said investigators planned to interview the people seen at the unit and the person who was renting it.

The blaze may have been accidental, but it’s clear to investigators that someone was somehow at fault, Vettel said. The specific cause of the fire was not released.

Fire crews dispatched to the blaze about 4:30 a.m. had to use power saws to cut through the locks on the exterior gates and the locks on individual units, Battalion Chief Dane Carley said.

Carley said one unit was engulfed in flames and seven others received some fire damage. Sixteen additional units had smoke damage, he said.
