Neighbors: Filling in gaps on Jerry LeRoy and the Arrows
Neighbors’ recent item about the Arrows was sent in by a woman who had some information about the band but wasn’t sure of the names of all of its members and other details about it.
To recap what she knew:
Singer Jerry Leroy’s last name was Sersland and he was from Alvarado, Minn.; Larry Ellingson, on saxophone, was from Goodridge, Minn.; and the lead guitar player’s last name was Kolden, and he was from St. Hilaire, Minn.
Now, Glenn fills in the gaps:
Kolden’s first name was Roger.
Jerry Leroy Sersland’s brother John played drums.
The band was booked out of Alvarado.
And Glenn’s brother Les Myrold was on bass guitar.
The Myrold boys lived in Crookston, Minn., during the years the Arrows were playing. Les, who also traveled with the Buddy Knox Road Show, now lives in Alexandria, Minn., and still plays.
There’s another note about the musical Myrold family.
Glenn’s nephew Ryan Myrold is a member of the Blenders vocal quartet, which is still going strong. Ryan, the son of Glenn’s younger brother Jerry, goes by the name of Ryan Lance with the Blenders.
He performs, too
Glenn is retired and lives in Fargo. But he’s a big music fan who makes videos of groups performing in the Fargo-Moorhead region.
But with all this music in his family, is he musical himself?
Well, he says, this is his claim to fame:
He worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in the mid-1960s. One time when country and rock and roll singer Conway Twitty performed in the Oklahoma town Glenn was in, Glenn got up on the stage and sang with him.
How many folks can say that?
