Two Moorhead residents charged with prescription fraudMOORHEAD – Two Moorhead residents are accused of faking prescriptions for painkillers at four drugstores here and in Dilworth.
Heather Renee Mortenson, 27, and Kenneth Francis Butcher Jr., 37, were both charged Wednesday in Clay County District Court with four counts of procuring drugs by fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit drug fraud, all fifth-degree felonies.
Court documents filed with the charges say Moorhead police started investigating reports Sept. 10 of a “Jennifer White” calling in prescriptions for the painkiller tramadol at various store pharmacies after pharmacists contacted police to report they could verify neither medication nor the prescribing doctor.
Police intercepted Mortenson and Butcher as they waited outside the Wal-Mart pharmacy here to pick up one of the prescriptions.
Mortenson told police in a jailhouse interview that she tried to get the tramadol prescriptions under the name of a woman with whom she had been at a St. Cloud halfway house.
Police said Butcher admitted he came with Mortenson to pick up prescriptions, and that both were addicted to tramadol.
Their first court appearances are set for May 8.
