Man who trashed West Acres Verizon store in 2004 accused of huffing in Wal-Mart parking lot

FARGO – A man who trashed the Verizon store at the West Acres Shopping Center in 2004 is now accused of huffing a can of air in the Walmart parking lot.

Jason Eugene Perala, 32, was charged Monday in Cass County District Court with one count of inhalation of vapors, a B misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Fargo police were dispatched to the Walmart store at 4731 13th Ave. S. after an employee there saw a man huffing canned air while sitting in an Oldsmobile.

Officer Mark Ranum spoke with the employee, who pointed out the Oldsmobile and the man in it.

Perala was sitting in the driver’s seat holding a 12-ounce can of Ultra Duster canned air. Three empty cans were in the front seat area, documents say, including one in Perala’s lap.

Perala was arrested at the scene.

In 2004, Perala served a 60-day jail sentence after pleading guilty in connection with a criminal case in which he went berserk in a Verizon store in the West Acres mall, throwing computers and phones, including his own, and causing about $20,000 worth of damage.

He told The Forum at the time that he had done so because he was enraged because of his poor cellphone service.

His next court appearance is set for July 22.
