Square dancers raise funds for American Heart AssociationArea square dancers kicked up their heels recently to raise money for the American Heart Association.
Ninety-eight square dancers and five spectators from North Dakota and Minnesota raised $3,553 at the 22nd annual North West Region Square Dance for Heart benefit March 30 at the Waubun (Minn.) Community Center.
In addition to an afternoon of square dancing, there was also a silent auction and dinner provided by Pappy’s Cafe in Waubun.
Dance callers and cuers Royce Nelson of Bagley, Minn.; Roger McNeil, Bernadette McNeil and Mark Helfter, all of Fargo; Jim and Rita Lizakowski of Moorhead; Charley Huhtala of Grand Forks; Abe Maier of Monticello, Minn.; Larry Johansen of Underwood, Minn.; Andy Flint of New London, Minn.; and Donna Stone of Sebeka, Minn., volunteered for the benefit.
Royce and MaryAnn Nelson of Bagley, Minn.; Bob and Dorothy Hoover of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; Duane Olson of Lake Park; and Sherry Zweerink of Waubun chaired the event.
