Business briefs (April 12)ND, Microsoft digital alliance marks one year
North Dakota and Microsoft are celebrating the one-year anniversary of forming a statewide digital alliance, the first of its kind in the country.
The public-private alliance has been instrumental in bringing Microsoft training and resources to North Dakotans in kindergarten through graduate school to increase skills in education, employability and entrepreneurship, focusing specifically on science, technology, engineering and math.
Representatives from the state and from Microsoft have carried out several programs during the year including the Marketplace for Kids Innovation Conference, student app development workshops and small-business hands-on workshops. Other efforts include:
- Microsoft Digital Literacy program, which teaches concepts and skills, is now offered at Job Service North Dakota and Adult Learning Centers across the state.
- DreamSpark program, which supports technical education by providing access to Microsoft software for learning, teaching and research.
- DigiGirlz, which teaches high school girls about careers in technology and provides hands-on computer and technology workshops.
Youth club, Michael’s partner for book drive
The Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley has partnered with Michael’s, 1638 13th Ave. E., West Fargo, for a book drive.
Now through April 19, customers at Michael’s can purchase and donate books from a selection of titles that will be given to the youth club.
Michael’s goal is to collect and distribute 1 million books to Boys & Girls clubs across the country.
Legal Services director leaving, open house set
Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota, 1015 7th Ave. N., Moorhead, will host an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. April 24 for outgoing Executive Director Mary Deutsch Schneider.
She has worked for Legal Services for 24 years. Cake and refreshments will be served.
April is Community Banking Month
The Independent Community Bankers of America and Independent Community Banks of North Dakota have kicked off ICBA Community Banking Month in April.
Throughout the month, ICBA and ICBND will encourage consumers and small businesses who are interested in building more economically sustainable communities to see what their community bank has to offer.
ICBND has served community banks in North Dakota for more than 47 years.
