Namedroppers

MAKING THE GRADE: Sarah M. Rice, daughter of Don and Mary Rice of Moorhead, was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo.

MSUM NEWS: Minnesota State University Moorhead has awarded a $4,000 University Scholarship to Kayne Griffith, child of Brandon and Brandi Griffith of Colfax, N.D. The scholarship is available to students with a composite ACT score of 24-25 and a high school rank in the top 50 percent, or a composite ACT score of 21-23 and a high school rank in the top 10 percent.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS: North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, has awarded scholarships to the following area Minnesota students:

HIGH HONORS: Terrance McLarnan, a 1972 graduate of Moorhead High School, was recently awarded the North American Writer’s Award at the International Psychoanalytic Association’s World Congress held in Prague. McLarnan is a psychotherapist in private practice in San Jose, Calif., and was recently named president of the Northern California Society of Psychoanalytic Psychology.

TWIRLING NEWS: The following members of the Silver Baton Twirlers from the YMCA of Cass Clay Counties were winners in the Miss Shamrock Baton Twirling Competition held in Omaha, Neb.:

Kaycee Froysland, 16, won the Miss Emerald Princess award and placed first in solo twirling, two baton twirling and marching; second in marching; and third in modeling.

Jessica Green, 13, won first in marching, show twirling and solo twirling; second in two baton twirling, marching and modeling; and third in the overall Miss Shamrock Pageant.

Lauren Green, 10, placed first in marching, modeling and solo twirling; second in two baton twirling and marching; and fifth overall in the Miss Shamrock Pageant.

The twirlers are coached by Shaina Magel and Merrie Sue Holtan.
