Letter: Celebrate week of young childEach year, a week is set aside to celebrate your youngest community members and to recognize and appreciate those working in the early childhood field. April 6-12 is National Week of the Young Child.
It’s a time to celebrate young children and to recognize the important role that quality programs have in assuring that all children thrive. The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that the experiences children have in the first six years have a lasting impact on later success in school and life. It provides us with an opportunity to commit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment – at home, at child care, at school, and in the community – that will promote their ability to learn, grow and thrive.
The Clay County Early Childhood Initiative, a network of community partners, focuses on those first experiences. This year, in recognition of the Week of the Young Child, the initiative, in partnership with the Moorhead Center Mall merchants and Moorhead Parks and Recreation, is hosting a Kidfest on Saturday, April 12.
This year’s focus will be on encouraging healthy eating and fitness, two key components of starting our children on the road to a healthy lifestyle. The event will be held at the Center Mall and will feature booths with activities for the kids and information for caregivers, stage performances by Penny and Pals, kids’ Zumba, dance team, the Red River Zoo and Games Galore. Healthy snacks and prizes will be available. Please join us on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate children.
