Red River expected to crest below flood stage in Fargo
The Red River, which was almost 16.4 feet Tuesday afternoon, will continue to rise gradually to its crest Friday, and then gradually subside, according to the forecast.
The spring thaw is picking up momentum with high temperatures in recent days in the 50s, with a high around 75 expected Wednesday.
In four of the past five springs, the Red River has crested above major flood stage, which begins at 30 feet. The record flood of 2009 crested at 40.84 feet; in 2010, the spring crest was 36.99 feet; 2011, 38.81 feet; 2012, 17.83 feet; 2013, 33.31 feet.
Flood forecasts are subject to revision and can change as conditions change.
