Barnesville's Strand receives scholar-athlete awardFARGO – The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation unveiled it’s 2014 scholar-athlete awards on Tuesday.
Barnesville’s Michael Strand was one of eight scholar-athletes across Minnesota who will be recognized at the seventh annual Minnesota Football Honors Awards Event at the Hilton Minneapolis on May 4.
Strand was a Minnesota Mr. Football finalist, a member of the Vikings All-State team and has been voted all-section twice and all-conference three times at Barnesville. He played running back, defensive back and punt returner.
Strand will graduate as the valedictorian of his class this spring and was also part of the state champion Economics Challenge team and the Knowledge Bowl. Strand also volunteered in the community doing things like cleaning ditches, delivering valentines to the elderly, working at a homeless shelter and collecting food for the local food shelf.
He will play football and study business administration and marketing this fall at Minnesota State Moorhead.
