Tech Mahindra to add 100 jobs in Fargo; tech support company grew faster than expected

FARGO – Tech Mahindra, an India-based information technology company with 170 employees in Fargo, plans to add 100 more jobs in the next 12 months, a company spokesman announced Friday.

The positions, split between business processes and information technology, including software development and maintenance, will have a median salary of $50,000, said Lakshmanan Chidambaram, head of Tech Mahindra in North America.

The company is at 4340 18th Ave. S.

“Our goal will be to bring more high-end jobs here,” Chidambaram said.

Tech Mahindra, a $3 billion company, came to Fargo in 2012 in a partnership with Cargill, and started with 20 employees. It surpassed its 24-month job target six months ahead of time.

Employees here provide real-time tech support to companies and their customers, including a major telecommunications provider and an online catalog retailer, Chidambaram said, adding he is unable to name the companies.

Tech Mahindra has been a great fit for Fargo, said Mark Vaux, executive vice president for business development at the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp.

“The fact that they’ve committed to growing here speaks volumes” of Fargo’s business climate, Vaux said.

Tech Mahindra has received support from local colleges, Chidambaram said, adding that 20 percent of its hires have been recent graduates.

Tech Mahindra has other U.S. locations in Omaha, Neb., Louisville, Ky., Erie, Pa., and Dallas, and offices in 51 countries. It is part of the $16.7 billion Mahindra Group, which also includes finance, retail, engineering and manufacturing, including farm equipment and utility vehicles.
