Weekend Watch: Rachel Kushner and Wendy Lower
This year’s National Book Awards reading at Knutson Campus Center, Concordia College, is all about women, violence and world politics. Finalists Rachel Kushner’s novel “The Flamethrowers” spins the tale of a young female American artist and motorcycle racer who gets caught up in underground Italian politics while Wendy Lower’s non-fiction offering, “Hitler’s Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields,” gives an eye-opening account of a previously underexposed side of World War II. Both authors will read from and discuss their books and themes with National Public Radio’s Lynn Neary hosting. Thursday’s event at 7:30 is free and open to the public.
