Forum editorial: Summer lineup wins rosesPRAIRIE ROSES: To the entertainment promoter and the people at the Bluestem Center for the Arts for signing an impressive lineup of shows for the summer. The acts range from classic to modern, bluegrass to rock and more to be announced at a later date. In other words, the playbill looks like it will have something for everyone – and all to be performed at the spectacular Bluegrass stage. After an expected rocky start, the center, which is home to the Fargo School District’s Trollwood Performing Arts School, is evolving into the multi-faceted venue its planners and benefactors expected. The summer lineup, including Trollwood’s musical production, will make for a summer of great shows.
LEAFY SPURGE: To a Federal Avia-tion Administration building height “guideline” that is both an affront to common sense and without merit. A very preliminary proposal for a 300-foot plus building in downtown Fargo apparently would get the FAA’s atten-tion because it would be taller than – get this – the agency’s 52-foot “deter-mination of hazard to air navigation.” By that standard dozens of buildings and other structures are “hazards.” Included among them are Black Building, Radisson Hotel, Forum Communications Building, Sanford Health buildings and several church steeples, to say nothing of hundreds of mature trees. Got some idea now of the foolishness of the FAA’s hazard standard? Bureaucracy does what it does, but this stuff is really silly.
