Letter: A ‘newspaper’ becomes tabloid

The recent tragic deaths of area residents has clearly lured The Forum from newspaper to tabloid status.

A week after the horrible death of Katie Christopherson, The Forum found it necessary to reprint a picture of her with an article “confirming” the closed case of the break-in at an Alexandria, Minn., vet clinic. Really?

I cannot see the reasoning behind that article plus the need to again run the picture of her with her boyfriend. Katie was murdered. Her family did not deserve to have such blatant disregard shown for their pain by adding this non-news article.

Last week the same “shame” was cast upon the family of Lt. Jeff Skuza with the splashing headline indicating he was to be fired. Says who? The chief indicated he had not made a final decision. Or did he whisper his decision to The Forum, allowing the newspaper to shout it to the public? I highly doubt that was the case. Yet The Forum used this statement as a headline.

Both cases were beyond tragic; both families deserved better from the newspaper that serves their community. I offer my sincere condolences to both families who were subject to such severe and cruel punishment by The Forum.
