Sanford sets opening date for new Moorhead clinic damaged in explosionMOORHEAD – The new Sanford Health Clinic here, damaged in a Feb. 24 explosion that delayed its opening, will open April 28.
Repairs have begun and vendors are back on site at the new $17 million clinic, located near the junction of Interstate 94 and 34th Street South.
Moorhead fire officials determined the explosion was caused by an accumulation of gas from a propane torch that a worker was using to dry an elevator shaft, which had water on the floor.
Before the explosion, which gave the worker minor injuries, the clinic was scheduled to open March 3. No damage estimate was available in this morning’s announcement.
“The confirmation of the unique and rare circumstances that caused the incident provides us comfort that this building is and has always been safe,” Jeff Hoss, Sanford’s vice president of clinical operations, said in a statement.
Sanford’s existing Moorhead clinic at 1301 8th St. S. will close April 25. Sanford has yet to decide what its new use will become.
