Letter: Take another look at buildingI had not heard about the Centro Cultural Building in Moorhead closing, but I was saddened to hear that there was no plan to save it.
I agree with Holly Heitkamp that the building is a much-needed asset in the Romkey area. This building was a cultural connection for the people who live in this area and is important for the young people to stay connected to parents, grandparents and the many languages they grew up with.
The fact the inspection showed that the building is secure and structurally sound is key to knowing that the building can be saved. This building could be an asset to both the park programs and the Moorhead school programs. There could be art classes, craft classes, English language classes, small mechanical classes, and so on taught there by volunteer and teaching staff. The artwork on the front of that building gives you a glimpse of the artistic talent that is present in the Romkey area.
To keep the Centro Cultural Building open would benefit the families, the schools and the city of Moorhead. I hope the Park Board, the School Board and the city will take another look at what they feel is important to spend their money on.
