26-year-old found dead on rails near University Drive in FargoFARGO – A 26-year-old Fargo man was found dead on the train tracks near the University Drive underpass Friday afternoon.
Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said the Police Department was contacted by a representative of BNSF Railway about 4:20 p.m. about a possible body on the tracks.
When police arrived, they found the man, whose name has not been released, on the eastbound track. There is no railroad crossing near that point in the tracks, just across Main Avenue from Tailgators Sports Café.
Though Vettel said police are still investigating the time of death, he suspects there was “another reason” the man was on the tracks at the time of the incident.
“There are a number of reasons why he’d be there,” Vettel said. “It certainly isn’t an area where people typically pass over just to cross on the railroad tracks, so chances are there was another ulterior motive for him to be there at the time of the incident.”
It has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol were involved. The Fargo Police Department is still investigating the incident.
