Vikings sign CB Munnerlyn, re-sign DT EvansMINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent cornerback Captain Munnerlyn on Thursday to a three-year contract.
The Vikings also agreed to a one-year deal to keep defensive tackle Fred Evans, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Munnerlyn’s deal is projected to be worth up to $15 million, according to reports.
Munnerlyn, an unrestricted free agent, was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 draft by the Carolina Panthers. Last season, he started a career-high 16 regular-season games and the NFC divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The six-year veteran has returned five interceptions for touchdowns during his career. In 77 games, including 50 starts, he has 208 tackles, seven interceptions and 39 passes defensed.
Evans, 30, had 20 tackles while seeing action in 14 games last season. He will be entering his eighth season.
The Vikings were seeking to retain the veteran backup with defensive tackle Kevin Williams moving on as a free agent and 2013 first-round pick Sharrif Floyd set to step into a starting job.
