Letter: A woman’s body should be hers to control

I am a feminist, and I think abortion should be legal for every woman. Let me explain what a feminist is, because to most people, it is synonymous with a crazy woman.

A feminist is any person who thinks women are equal to men and should be treated as such. Not a radical concept. Because of this, I think that women should have a voice and rights. Abortion is a women’s right.

Women should be able to do what they want with their bodies and have control over them. This might seem a tad bit insane and immoral to all of the conservative, close-minded religious Midwesterners. I don’t share the view of most people around here.

I am pro-choice, which does not mean pro-abortion. Nobody is pro-abortion, because abortion isn’t really a great thing. Everyone can agree on that. When you take away a woman’s right to her own body, you are taking away her freedom. I think that if you want an abortion, you should be able to get one – it’s your choice, your body.

I don’t think that a bunch of pasty old men should be able to make laws to restrict what a woman can and cannot do with her body.

It is legal, but not when there is a heartbeat, which can be as early as six weeks. At that point, a woman may not even know she is pregnant. Yes, it is legal, but it’s so restrictive that it’s almost illegal. Why are these men making the decisions? They are not women, so why are they deciding what’s best for women?
