Letter: There once was downtown skating rink in FargoI read The Forum’s March 10 editorial, giving a prairie rose to Fargo parks Director Roger Gress and Fargo City Commissioner Brad Wimmer “for more visionary thinking with their idea to build a public skating rink in downtown Fargo.”
There was a skating rink on Broadway some years ago. After the first stage of building the six-story Dakota Bank Building on Broadway, there was an open space south of the tower, before the second stage of the building was built. This open space was turned into a public skating rink during the winter months. The rink sat on the corner of Broadway and NP Avenue.
I remember it being very active around Christmas time, and it added a wonderful Christmas flavor to downtown.
I am all in favor of bringing back a skating rink to downtown Fargo. Maybe the Civic Center Plaza would be a good spot.
