Letter: Kentucky same-sex ruling was right thing to do

In response to The Forum article “Federal judge orders Kentucky to recognize same-sex marriages”:

I agree with the Kentucky judge. Same-sex couples should be recognized by the state they live in; not recognizing them, in my opinion, is taking away their rights.

Each person in America is guaranteed rights, and no one should have their rights taken away based on their sexual orientation; it’s unconstitutional. The decision of the judge was the right one. These couples should be recognized just like opposite-sex couples are. Same-sex couples shouldn’t have to worry that if anything happens to their spouse, they won’t be able to have a say in how their spouse is taken care of. American citizens tend to take pride in the equality their country gives each of them; same-sex couples should be able to also take pride in being treated equally.

Other states should look to the decision of this judge as a reason to follow his footsteps and recognize same-sex couples in their state.
