Schock's 27 points propel West Fargo to East Region consolation win

FARGO – Travis Schock reached double-digit scoring less than nine minutes into the game Friday at the Bison Sports Arena.

The senior guard’s early offense helped spark West Fargo to a 62-40 victory against Fargo North in the consolation semifinals at the East Region boys basketball tournament.

“We played as a team,” said Schock, who scored a game-high 27 points. “Defense is where we started, and then that just brought the offense the whole game.”

The Packers (12-9) advanced to a state-qualifying game at 4:15 p.m. today at the Bison Sports Arena. North (6-16) had its season end.

“We knew we had to get a win, and we used the motivation from that,” said Schock, who made 11 of 22 shots from the floor.

The Packers took control with a 10-2 run that started near the midway point of the first half. Schock sparked that surge with a steal and one-handed dunk. West Fargo junior Ben Holland capped the rally with a 15-foot jump shot that gave his team a 23-13 lead with 6 minutes, 40 seconds to play in the first half. The Packers took a 35-22 lead into halftime and maintained a double-digit lead the entire second half. Schock scored 15 of his game-high points in the first half.

“We definitely had to get a good start, and we had to keep going throughout the whole game,” Schock said.
