Father, son uninjured after being struck by car outside Fargo schoolFARGO – A father and his young son were struck by a vehicle this morning while walking to school in south Fargo.
Assistant Fire Chief Leroy Skarloken said it was a “very low speed” collision, and no one was injured.
"Emotionally shook up more than anything,” Skarloken said.
The collision happened around 7:55 a.m. near Hawthorne Elementary School, 555 8th Ave. S., when a driver backed into the father and son, Skarloken said. Police Lt. Joel Vettel said the two were crossing the road and weren't at a crosswalk. The child is 5 years old and is a student at Hawthorne, Vettel said.
The two were eventually transported via ambulance to Sanford, Skarloken said.
“It was just precautionary,” Skarloken said. “They were doing fine.”
The driver was cited for illegally backing up in a road, Vettel said.
