Fargo School District to hire lifeguards for swim classesFARGO – The Fargo School District will hire lifeguards to watch over this year’s final two weeks of swim classes at South, North and Davies high schools, Superintendent Jeff Schatz said Tuesday.
Schatz said he’s asked the principals of the schools to find people who are certified to work as life guards to watch over the physical education classes in the pools.
“We’ll do it while we’re taking a hard look at school protocols,” Schatz said.
The decision follows a near-drowning at the South High pool in mid-February.
An unidentified male student was pulled unconscious from the deep end of the school’s pool Feb. 18.
The student was given CPR, then taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. His condition and identity have not been released.
