Divas and Rockstars in West Fargo closes; high-end lounge planned
Divas and Rock Stars owner Jill Carlson said the decision to close the popular karaoke bar – which was routinely voted the No. 1 karaoke spot by Forum readers in an annual poll – was difficult. The business was successful, but Carlson and her family felt this was the time to step away from the venture they opened in August 2007.
Carlson said there are no plans to reopen the bar in the near future. Messages of support and love for the karaoke bar were pouring onto Carlson’s Facebook page Monday.
She believes new plans for a lounge in her former location will be an excellent fit for the community.
Owners of Maxwells Restaurant in West Fargo plan to open a high-end lounge for professionals, especially women to enjoy a relaxing but sophisticated atmosphere, said co-owner Mike Marcil.
Marcil stressed that the gourmet cocktails and fresh food on the planned light menu will be high end yet affordable.
The new lounge set to open by May 1 will showcase a décor of American leather furniture that is upscale and welcoming, he said.
“It will be the best atmosphere in West Fargo at an affordable price,” Marcil said.
Marcil said the need for a relaxing lounge for professionals will rise in West Fargo as the city continues to grow.
“You’ve got Sanford coming in; you have just a tremendous amount of business development,” he said.
Owners of Maxwells will close on the sale of the former karaoke bar at 1410 9th St. E. after the West Fargo City Commission approves Maxwells’ new liquor license. Approval was expected Monday night.
Unlike Fargo, West Fargo does not limit the number of liquor licenses it grants within the city, but it does limit the location of where liquor can be sold, said West Fargo Finance Director Tina Gustafson said.
