Letter: Reconsider site for new Fargo convention centerThe city of Fargo needs to consider where the people coming to a new convention center would like it. Fargodome: no shopping and away from everything else in town. Downtown: no parking, hard to get to, limited shopping, lots of bars but very little for kids/teenagers to do. West Acres area: lots of shopping, motels, restaurants, bars and easy access.
Remove the old Menards/Savers building and the old Hooters building and you have a large site to build on with parking and empty lots across 17th Avenue. It would be within walking distance of West Acres for food, shopping and entertainment.
Or find a similar area in south Fargo. Build it large enough for two or more basketball courts to attract Class A and B basketball tournaments and large conventions.
Build the new center for the people who will come to use it.
