Occupants escape house fire in Grand ForksGrand Forks Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house fire in north Grand Forks late Thursday night.
GRAND FORKS - The occupants of the home, 1815 6th Ave. N., escaped from the burning house uninjured.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the house when they responded to the alarm at 9:56 p.m. Thursday, according to Battalion Chief Rob Corbett.
The fire quickly was brought under control. However damage is estimated at about $70,000 to the building and contents.
Altru Ambulance and Grand Forks Police Department assisted at the scene.
The fire department issued three fire safety reminders early this morning:
-- Ensure there are working smoke detectors throughout the home and each sleeping room.
-- Replace smoke alarm batteries twice a year.
-- Develop and practice home fire escape plans with the family.
