Former Finley-Sharon school business manager accused of embezzling almost $18,000FINLEY, N.D. – A former public school business manager faces felony theft charges after allegedly embezzling almost $18,000 from the Finley-Sharon School District.
Rusti Jean Post, 42, was charged Wednesday in Steele County District Court with one count of Class B felony theft. The charge carries with it a potential 10-year prison term, if convicted.
Steele County State’s Attorney Charlie Stock said school officials discovered the theft and reported it to authorities. He did not know what had led to the discovery. “There’s some initial investigation that needs to be done,” he said.
Stock said a state auditor and an independent auditor examined the finances in question.
School Superintendent Seth Thoreson said Post worked as the district’s business manager for a three-year period, during which she allegedly committed the thefts from May 2011 to May 2012.
Post resigned sometime between last May and July, Thoreson said. The school conducted its own administrative investigation into the matter, he said.
Post’s first court appearance is set for March 31.
She couldn’t be reached for comment.
