Letter: Pleasure to know Harold NewmanI didn’t know Harold Newman in any way society might consider significant. But when WDAY and The Forum reported Thursday that he passed away, I cried. Thanks to The Forum for the nice article describing what kind of person Mr. Newman was.
I had the good fortune to sit behind Harold, his family and friends at the Newman Outdoor Stadium watching Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks baseball for several years. People who sit together for weeks, through all kinds of weather, get to know each other, in a casual kind of way. Spring freezes, summer sweats, fall chills – we become a community of sorts, like neighbors in the Newman neighborhood. It was interesting that his daughter said he loved people. It surely showed. When Harold was there, things were just a little more fun.
“Do you need some sunblock? Here, I have a bottle of water. Oh, for beautiful! Look at those fireworks! More fireworks? I brought Chex mix that my grandkids made; want some? The school days, who thought of that? Will that guy please get a haircut? Aren’t the Hawks doing great this year, or, ugh, what was that?”
So many pleasant memories for millions of families. Thank you, Harold Newman, and everyone in his family.
