Zaiser won't seek re-election in Fargo's District 21
Zaiser was first elected to the House in 2002.
“I have decided that I will not be a candidate for re-election in 2014,” he said in a statement. “During the last two years, my personal health has been declining. I now suffer from severe chronic pain that makes it difficult for me to devote the time and energy to serve for another four years.
Zaiser said was an honor to represent District 21.
“I always fought for what I thought was right,” the statement said. “That sometimes meant taking unpopular positions. I went to work every day in Bismarck dedicated to fighting for ordinary North Dakotans who don’t have lobbyists or special interests working on their behalf. I’m proud of the fights I fought and the principles I championed.”
Zaiser plans to stay involved in the political arena as a private citizen and activist, according to his statement.
