Letter: Thank you to all for the memories

Although my days at the Devils Lake (N.D.) Daily Journal didn’t end well, I feel thanks are in order.

Thank you to the Graham family for hiring me over the phone more than 40 years ago.

Thank you to so many kids and athletes who made it so enjoyable for so many years.

A special thank-you to the young people who invited me to school one day to present me with a beautiful red blazer.

Thank you to the late Julie Duren of Maddock, N.D., who brought a bag of doughnuts from her family bakery to the 1977 girls state basketball tournament in Minot, N.D., for me and former Forum sports writer, Dick Seal.

Thanks to the St. Mary’s kids who were always good to me. And to Henry Brenner at North Dakota State School for the Deaf in Devils Lake for the chance to cover legendary athletes Steve Blehm and Drexel Lawson.

A special thank-you goes to guys like coaches Duane Schwab, Ron Carlson, Myron Loberg and Mark Swanson, who were good to me. Those who were good to me know who they are and I thank you.

A thank-you to Durene and Doyle Heisler for their basketball exploits.

Thanks for the emotional ride with the tragic Joe Roller story.

Another thank-you to coaches Adrian Hoffner and Bob Homan, who were helpful and supportive.

Finally, thanks to Jack Zaleski, now at The Forum, whom I worked with way back when Devils Lake had a “good” newspaper.

Bellmore was sports editor at the Devils Lake Daily Journal for many years.
