Detroit Lakes residents asked to keep small stream of water flowingDETROIT LAKES, Minn. - Residents here are being asked to keep a small stream of cold water running out of one faucet at their home or business to prevent freeze ups.
In a message posted on the city's web site, officials say there has been a large increase in service lines freezing up this year due to the cold weather and a deeper than normal frost line.
Customers will be billed for their average usage from 2013 during the months of March and April to aid in reducing costs of running the additional water, the city says.
This notice remains in effect until further notice.
