Two adults die in camper fire near Wadena

WADENA, Minn. – Two adults died in a fire early Friday morning in Wadena Township.

The blaze, a few miles south of Wadena between the city and the Todd County line, was reported to authorities shortly before 4 a.m., said Wadena County Sheriff Michael Carr.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found a camper trailer “fully engulfed in fire,” according to a sheriff’s office news release.

In an interview Friday, Carr said the sheriff’s office will not name the victims until autopsies confirm their identities.

“We don’t want to assume anything,” he said.

The Wadena Pioneer Journal confirmed the identity of one victim, a man in his early 20s. The identity of the other victim was unknown.

Madsen’s Towing removed the remains of the camper trailer from the scene, Carr said.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing with assistance from the Minnesota state fire marshal, the Wadena Fire Department and Lake Region Health Care.

Carr said more information should be available today.
