Giving Hearts Day raises record of nearly $5.5 million

FARGO – Charities throughout North Dakota and western Minnesota raised nearly $5.5 million during the 7th Giving Hearts Day fundraiser Thursday, according to preliminary data.

Throughout the 24-hour online fundraising event organized by the Dakota Medical Foundation, Alex Stern Family Foundation and Impact Foundation, more than 24,000 donations were made. During the event, gifts of $10 or more were matched by the foundations and other donors.

In total, donations to the 235 charitable organizations and funds participating in Giving Hearts Day surpassed last year’s previous high total of $3.7 million. The preliminary total this year is $5,477,704.

DMF said the top 10 nonprofits raising funds were:

- YWCA – $392,991.

- FirstChoice Clinic – $287,230.

- TNT Kid’s Fitness – $235,566.

- Oak Grove Lutheran School – $231,038.

- Churches United for the Homeless – $119,632.

- Anne Carlsen Center – $115,038.

- Great Plains Food Bank – $114,304.

- North Dakota Autism Center – $103,198.

- RiverView Foundation – $84,085.

- Fraser Ltd. – $81,430.

The fundraiser has grown since its start in 2008, when it brought in $479,000 for 40 health-related nonprofits.

Official results will be released after information is verified, according to a Dakota Medical Foundation release.
