Letter: Let players play; let coaches coachNice guys finish last, or at least that seems to be the philosophy at Shanley High School. It is unbelievable that one set of parents can have the power to end a 15- year successful coaching career. The worst part of this is that it was all done without due process as outlined in the Shanley Handbook. I view the text that was sent to the players as motivational rather than threatening.
I am a former teacher, coach and, yes, Joel Swanson’s mother. Never have I heard of anything so despicable. I fear a trend has developed in this country where parents can make career-changing decisions for wonderful teachers and coaches. It has driven so many from the profession.
Let’s think about the old adage: “Let the players play; the coaches coach; and the parents cheer (and keep their noses out of things in most cases).
