Letter: Fact check shows different numbersIn this year’s State of the Union address, President Barack Obama lamented the fact that women in this country earn, on average, a full 23 percent less than men. Fortunately, a simple fact check reveals that the disparity is a less-shocking 9 percent. Possible reasons for this include fewer female members of labor unions and less female participation in more lucrative professions.
Rather than accusing the other party of fictitious gender wars and attempting to divide the country into archaic classes, wouldn’t it be nice if our leader spent more time offering real solutions to real issues?
As an independent voter, I can only hope that next February, our leader will be more successful at bringing a sense of unity to the “state of the union.”
