Man arrested in Moorhead for impersonating police officer

MOORHEAD – Police arrested a man Friday morning after he went to several homes in south Moorhead Friday morning and claimed to be a police officer.

The man, wearing a black coat, white tank top and dark pants, woke several residents and announced himself as an officer. But no one was convinced, Moorhead police Lt. Tory Jacobsen said.

“He wasn’t believed for a minute,” Jacobsen said.

The man told residents different made-up stories as to why he had knocked on their doors. “He seemed to be wandering aimlessly and appeared to be possibly under the influence of something,” Jacobson said.

The residents, who live off South Eighth Street near 22nd and 23rd avenues, called police, and officers found the man, identified as Ivan Lonechild, and arrested him, Jacobsen said.

Lonechild, 29, of Fargo was being held at the Clay County Jail on charges of giving police a false name, disorderly conduct and impersonating a police officer.
