Serkland Law Firm and Tax Law Office merge

The Tax Law Office has merged with the Serkland Law Firm in Fargo and the combined firm will continue to provide legal services under the Serkland Law Firm name.

Serkland Law is located in downtown Fargo and has been in business for 125 years. The Tax Law Office was established in 1995 by Rodger Mohagen and specializes in tax, estate planning and business law.

Rodger Mohagen and Bart McIlonie, the principals of the Tax Law Office, have joined Serkland Law as “of counsel” attorneys and will continue to provide legal services to clients. James Maring, formerly with the Tax Law Office, has also joined Serkland Law as an associate attorney, along with paralegal Heidi Neumann.

Mohagen, McIlonie and Maring will continue to maintain their offices at the former Tax Law Office at 1531 32nd Ave. S., Fargo. Tim Richard, a partner with Serkland Law Firm who concentrates his practice in business law, estate planning, probate and real estate, will also have an office at that location.

In addition to their work for Serkland Law, Mohagen and McIlonie will continue to provide employee stock ownership plan and tax consulting services through Core Consulting Group.

Experts to speak on local, regional economy

Four local experts will offer their insights on the status of the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo economy at The Chamber’s Economic Outlook Forum from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at the Ramada Plaza and Suites and Conference Center, Fargo. The speakers include:

• Pam Sharp, director of the Office of Management and Budget, will discuss North Dakota’s economy and the various sectors contributing to it;

• Ross Manson, principal at Eide Bailly, will explain the complex relationship between health care and the economy;

• Jim Gartin, president of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp., will highlight the local trends in the area and what needs to happen for long-term sustainability; and

• Dan Staller, Fargo market president for Starion Financial, will reveal the results of the local business economic outlook survey and compare them to last year’s results.

Nominees sought for senior volunteer awards

Home Instead Senior Care network is seeking nominations for its Salute to Senior Service program.

The program recognizes the contributions of adults age 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.

The deadline to submit nominees is March 1. State winners will be determined by popular vote. A panel of senior care experts will select a national Salute to Senior Service winner from the state honorees.

Home Instead will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ designated nonprofit organizations and their personal stories will be shared online on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s designated and approved nonprofit charity.

Half-day workshop to focus on team building

The Village Business Institute will host a half-day workshop, “Building High Performance Teams,” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 24 at Dakota Medical Foundation, 4141 28th Ave. S., Fargo.
