Weekend Watch: Michael Strand and ‘Contemporary Ceramics’ openings
Ceramics is more than just cups, plates and bowls. Two art exhibits opening this weekend show the current state of clay is moving forward in exciting ways. North Dakota State University instructor Michael Strand shows his most recent work, which mix social interaction with familiar items giving them a much larger meaning, opens at 7 p.m. Friday at ecce art + yoga, 216 Broadway, Fargo. Strand talks about his work at 7:30. This event is free. (701) 298-3223. The Plains Art Museum, 704 1st Ave. N., Fargo, partnered with the Northern Clay Center of Minneapolis to bring “Red River Reciprocity: Contemporary Ceramics in Minnesota and North Dakota” to town. The show features works of all shapes and sizes by 79 regional artists. This show opens from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event is free for members, $10 for non-members and $5 for students.
